Does It Deserve all this attention ??

The Press conference that followed Obama's speech has caused  a huge debated in Egypt. As I hinted  before two Egyptian journalists were invited to the press conference "I expect that Ibrahim Eissa was invited too by as he refused to go , they become two" , they were Fahmi Howaidy and Magdy El-Gald. Howaidy politely declined to go at the last moment after knowing that there would be an Israeli journalist from Yedoit Ahronot newspaper where as El-Gald went. Howaidy did not go because of his personal convictions that refuse any sort of relations neutralization between Egypt and Israel, it was not something strange or surprising for the journalist with Islamic Arab nationalist views.
Already Howaidy was not the only Arab journalist that declines to go after knowing that there would an Israeli journalist attending; there were also Lebanese and Syrian journalists who did not go too.
El-Gald went to the Press conference and considered it an exclusive scoop to his newspaper , no other Egyptian journalist had this rare opportunity. He claims that he went as there as the representative of the Egyptian Press !! Big words for sure.
Now both men have their own supporters that attacking the other.Howaidy is  hated by many people for his views and thus he is under the fire of neo-liberals "mostly former socialists" where as El-Gald is attacked by all forces in Egypt that reject Israel whether from Islamists,Nationalists,Nasserites, socialists and communists.
It became an event of its own.
To be honest I do not see in what Howaidy did or what El-Gald did was surprising because this is what I expect from Howaidy and what I expect from El-Gald , this is who both men will act based on their own political views.
Of course for Howaidy , his views and principals are above all more than El-Gald.
I feel that what is going on is just another battle in the on going war between Al-Shorouk and Al Masry Al Youm.

  3. Your reaction doesn't surprise me either. The Arab public only hears what it wants to hear. The Arab public was very happy with all the distortions and untruths that Obama spouted about alleged Arab contributions to civilizations but minutes after hearing Obama call for reconcillation and talk between the parties to the Middle-East, those Arab journalist could not stomach the thought of being in the same room as an Israeli. It is as if they weren't even listening to the speech. Your thought processes are very selective and you see only what you want to see.
